Warehouse Layout Re-design
Situation
Process Chain was required to undertake a review and re-design of an existing 150,000 sq. ft. warehouse facility in the healthcare sector.
Our solution
- We used a Pareto analysis to establish the product range and sales volumes, and the product profile (runners, repeaters and strangers).
- We produced a stock profile model incorporating weight and cube requirements, and presented a recommendation for the re-design of the warehouse including re-commissioning of a gravity fed Container Live Storage (CLS) system and re-positioning of the slow moving racking.
We implemented the recommended layout over a 48-hour period without causing any disruption to the day-to-day operations. The benefits for the client included operator efficiency improvements of 20%, capacity improvements of approximately 40% and deferred a budgeted capital expenditure of £4m required to build a new facility.
